If you’re still looking for that “fur”ever friend, check out Homeward Pet Adoption Center. “We got our dog at Homeward Pet in Woodinville,” shares Lynette Hensley. “Of all the shelters we visited, we appreciated the experience here most of all. Not because this is where we found our dog, but because of the way they worked with us, talking through expectations, hopes, compatibility. We spent a long time with a few dogs, and with our chosen pup too.”

If you’re in downtown Woodinville on August 19, 2017, you will definitely want to check out the Celebrate Woodinville Festival: “Our family loves to attend the annual Basset Hound Bash/Woodinville All Fools’ Day Parade every August,” shares Kim Harman. “We kick off the morning with the pancake breakfast hosted at the local fire department, grab a seat on the parade route to watch the floats and dozens of basset hounds go by. It’s a fun-filled day at the farmer’s market with live music, art/craft vendors, food, wine and beer.” From 8:00am to 5:00pm, this yearly event is sure to be a great time for all ages!

If you’re not exactly a wine connoisseur but still enjoy a glass now and then, you’ll appreciate the selection at Patterson Cellars. Winemaker and owner John Patterson has been creating approachable wines since 2000. Each red, white, and rose is crafted in the new world style and includes knowledgeable descriptions on the taste and food pairings.
You can join Patterson himself at the Warehouse District Winery for a tasting, or, if you’re looking for something more cozy, at the Hollywood Hills Tasting Room for a seat by the fireplace and some live music. Each flight costs $10, but this can be waived with a minimum $25 wine purchase.

A required visit for wine tourists, JM Cellars combines delicious wines with the love and care that can only come from a family-run business. Owners John and Peggy have ensured that the grapes they receive are sustainably and organically grown, with the grapes from Margaret’s Vineyard specifically being clones of ones from the Bordeaux region of France. This makes for a small but high-quality selection of limited-release red, white, and rose wines with tastes that cannot be found anywhere else in North America.

For a winery visit unlike any other, check out Airfield Estates. A portion of this winery’s property once served as a training base for Army Air Corps. pilots during World War II and a few of the original planes can still be seen on site as farm storage facilities. With full-time jobs as a police officer and a reporter, the owners of Guardian Cellars made a leap and opened their own winery! The risk has definitely paid off, as Guardian continues to grow and serve the Woodinville area some of the most stellar red, white, and rose wines around.

When out and about this summer, live outdoor music is the perfect way to unwind after a long, stressful day. Lauren Pulfer suggests taking advantage of some of the music series at local Woodinville wineries and one spot in particular comes highly recommended: “The mega winery Chateau Ste Michelle…summer concerts on their picturesque grounds are a must-see,” shares Jen Bowman.
Kim Harman agrees, adding “Summer is always a wonderful time to take in the Summer Concert series at Chateau Ste. Michelle. When enjoying the great outdoors in Woodinville, one doesn’t usually think to visit a water treatment plant. “[It’s] a bit of a surprise,” Becky Larsen notes. “[But] the Education and Community Center at the Brightwater Clean-Water Treatment Facility is amazing. Not only functional, it really is so much more… Located off Highway 9 in Woodinville, the area boasts several miles of walking trails through native landscape, a very interesting educational center, and a community building that you can use for group functions or even a wedding!”
While you’re there, she suggests you “take a stroll, run, or walk your dog–feel like you’re in the country, but just steps away from the active community of Woodinville.”
For those who like to be a little more active when the nice weather hits, both Kim Harman and Jen Bowman suggest the Burke-Gilman Trail. “The Burke-Gilman trail will take you through the lush slough in Woodinville and links bikers/runners/walkers all the way to Marymoor in Redmond and Seattle,” shares Jen.

Let the kids burn off some energy with Lauren Pulfer and Kim Harman’s recommendation, a trip to Woodinville’s Rotary Community Park.“The Woodinville Rotary Skate/BMX Park is located near Woodinville High School and provides a fabulous place to ride your scooter, skateboard, and BMX bike,” shares Kim. “There is also a playground for kids, covered picnic area and nearby nature preserve to hike around.”
Lauren suggests “get[ting] creative on the graffiti wall,” which resides at the park and serves as a creative canvas for local artists. With a climbing rock, lookouts to Little Bear Creek, and much more, the little ones can have tons of fun while you relax and enjoy the day.

What’s so great about living in South Everett? There are several reasons why people choose to call South Everett “home,” and we asked locals what they love about the area so much. Here’s what they shared:
1. Quick access to Boeing and Paine Field.
As local Heather Potts points out, South Everett’s easy access to Boeing is definitely a perk of living in the area! This location will only become more desirable when Alaska Airlines starts running commercial flights from Paine Field in fall of 2018. For those in the area who have to head to SeaTac often, this will be a *huge* timesaver.
2. Several great transit options.
In addition to upcoming commercial flights, South Everett already has several excellent transportation options whether or not you have a car. With access to several freeways (including Interstate-5), local and regional bus routes, the Sounder Train (find stations in nearby Mukilteo and of course in Everett), and the light rail expansion, getting around the area just keeps getting easier. Having options like the train and light trail (in the future!) make it so you don’t even have to deal with car traffic, a definite bonus as our highways become more and more congested. 3. Nice neighborhoods with affordability.
According to local Brian Hayter, South Everett is a top choice for many people due to its “nice neighborhoods and affordability.” As Zillow reports, the median home price in Everett is $337,700 (August 2017). With prices steadily increasing, it’s significantly more affordable than nearby cities like Seattle (with a median home price of $690,200 for August 2017).
4. Unique outdoor opportunities.
Many people don’t know all that South Everett has to offer, and this includes some unique outdoor activities! Local Jen Bowman especially loves McCollum Pioneer Park: “McCollum Park is a fabulous Park and Ride but there are other unique amenities including an outdoor seasonal pool, BMX park, and walking trails linking to Mill Creek Town Center. 5. There’s tons of great shopping!
…And we really mean *tons*. Costco and T.J. Maxx are Heather Potts’ favorite places to stop by, but no matter what you’re looking for, you’ll probably be able to find it in South Everett. The Everett Mall is packed with shopping, dining, services, and entertaining, and here you’ll find Regal Cinemas, LA Fitness, Bed Bath & Beyond, PetSmart, Best Buy, Sears, and so much more. PARKS
For a getaway by the lake, check out Hauge Homestead Park. A picnic pavilion, waterfront access for fishing, and a soon-to-be new playground make it a great place to unwind. Another urban oasis is the popular Thornton A. Sullivan Park. “Th[is] park at Silver Lake is the perfect home base for an afternoon of fun at the lake,” says Jen Bowman. “Plenty of shade, playground equipment, and covered pavilions. This non-motorized lake is perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding!”
Janet Buehler agrees, saying “I love Silver Lake Park. Excellent facilities for big or small events at Fort Patterson and great big huge place for kids to play. Paddle boarding kayak and tubing!” A final spot that’s worth checking out is Green Lantern Park. From spots to catch bass to a tot lot for the youngsters, this park has something for everyone.
PICNIC GRUB
Across the street from Green Lantern Park is a shopping center with local eateries perfect for grabbing picnic food. For a seafood lunch, Sushi Ring serves up nigiri, hand rolls, and other sushi that will satisfy your craving. If you have a sweet tooth, the L’Artisan French Bakery has tarts, eclairs, and cakes that transport you to Paris. Fans of Chinese cuisine need to check out the homemade selections at China Dumpling & Noodle House. With a line that’s often wrapped around the building, it’s a local favorite. Another top spot is Viet Thai Cuisine Noodle Bar. Quality pho and curry dishes make it a go-to for adding some kick to your picnic. Finally, on chillier days, stop by the Safeway Starbucks and pick up a coffee before walking along the lake. You’ll love it!
LAKESIDE DINING
When night falls, enjoy it at Emory’s on Silver Lake. “Emory’s…is my favorite place for great happy hour with a beautiful, sunny patio in South Everett,” says Jen. “They also have live music in the bar, so check their website for details. They also have a banquet room in case you need to host an event! The main restaurant is lined with windows to take advantage of the western facing lake views.” It’s the perfect end to a day at Silver Lake!

GOLF
For local golfers looking to practice their skills, no place is better than Jen and Brian Hayter’s pick. “Columbia Super Range is the best spot to work on your golf game,” says Jen. “Located just east of I-5 on 128th, it’s easy to stop and hit a bucket of balls on your way home! Open til 10pm in the summer!” Or, if you just want a relaxing space to play a couple rounds, the Walter E. Hall Golf Course offers a tranquil forest setting and stunning views of the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. No matter which course you pick, you will be treated to a top-notch experience that will make you want to return again and again.
PARKS
There’s certainly no shortage of great local parks to enjoy while out and about in the South Everett area. For example, Jen shares that “McCollum [Pioneer] Park is a fabulous Park and Ride but there are other unique amenities including an outdoor seasonal pool, BMX park, and walking trails linking to Mill Creek Town Center.” Sports fans can also head over to Kasch Park and catch a game of softball, Little League, soccer, or lacrosse.
Searching for something extra adventurous? Jen also recommends High Trek Adventures at the Paine Field Community Park. Rope obstacle courses and ziplining offers something new and exciting to try out, and with over 60 challenges to try, you can keep coming back to try something new! (It’s also a great place for corporate events or parties!)
Finally, those with four-legged friends can bring them down to Loganberry Lane Park to enjoy the wooded trails off-leash. There really is something for everyone at these parks!
FARMS
According to Jen Bowman, “In the fall, South Everett residents head down the hill to the Snohomish River Valley where pumpkin patches, hay mazes, and harvest fun can be had!” One farm in particular to take advantage of all of this fun at is the nearby Farm at Swan’s Trail. A 50-acre pumpkin patch, the Washington State Corn Maze, wagon rides, and much more promise a great time for the whole family. For adults and older kids, the Thomas Family Farm features unique nighttime activities like zombie paintball, a haunted house, and a flashlight corn maze. It’s only the best way to spend this spooky time of year in the South Everett area.
“Commuters love Shoreline because it’s halfway between Everett and Seattle, so whether someone is going to Boeing or Amazon the commute is not overly painful. Plus there are so many Rapid Ride options, transit stations nearby and soon the Light Rail. Easy back roads to Ballard and Queen Anne and just a quick trip to Edmonds to hop on The Sounder!”

1. Future Light Rail Station
Did you know the Light Rail is coming to Shoreline?! That’s right—in 2023, Shoreline is getting light rail… and it’s getting not one but TWO stations! The city has plans for a station at I-5 and 145th St, and I-5 and 185th Street. You can take a look at the map of the extension right here. Not only will this be great for commuters, but this will have a huge effect on property values within its zoning.
2. Central Location
Like Cori mentioned earlier, Shoreline is nestled in a central location that’s in between Seattle and Everett. Depending where you live in Shoreline, it’s about a 24-minute drive into Downtown Seattle while Everett is about a 20-minute drive.
3. Aurora Village Transit Center
REALTOR® Jill Langer shares that people in Shoreline mostly use cars to get around, “but because there is a large transit center at Aurora Village, riding the bus is very convenient.” The Transit Center has several buses that head all over the region, including Downtown Seattle, First Hill, UW Campus, Northgate, Bellevue/Renton, and much more. There’s also a RapidRide to Downtown Seattle.
4. The Interurban Trail
“The Interurban Trail provides a great way to walk or bike and is connected to the north to Snohomish County’s and to the south to Seattle’s Interurban Trails,” shares REALTOR® Jill Langer. The north portion of this trail leads from Seattle all the way up to Everett and makes its way right through Shoreline.
The Burke-Gilman Trail doesn’t run through shoreline, but there is a project underway that connects Shoreline’s portion of the Interurban Trail to Lake Forest Park and the Burke-Gilman!
REALTOR® Bernice Whitney elaborates a bit more on the Burke-Gilman: “The primary source of transportation [in Shoreline] is by far the four wheel variety, but bicycles along the many two lane arterial roads is not uncommon. The Burke-Gilman Trail, which will take you down to the UW, points further west [and] is a popular destination for those both on bike and foot.”
5. Sounder Train in Nearby Edmonds
Located at 211 Railroad Ave, Edmonds, WA 98020 just north of Shoreline, the Sounder Train has a stop in Edmonds that you can take advantage of. The Sounder runs from Lakewood and Seattle, and Seattle and Everett, making it an excellent option for going longer distances in a relaxing, scenic manner. Bypass car traffic with this handy option!

The Shoreline Public School system features early learning opportunities, 9 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools, one K-8 school, and a Home Education Exchange program. Shorewood High School is especially of note—this school was recently completely renovated, and re-opened in September 2013.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN SHORELINE
St Luke School
St Luke School offers a wide range of programs, including a preschool program for 3 and 4-year-olds, all-day kindergarten, and school up through the 8th grade. It’s also important to note that this school year (2016-2017) is their first year as an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school! They also have an educational and engaging summer program to take advantage of.
Horizon School
“My kids went to Horizon School and absolutely loved it!” shares REALTOR® Cori Whitaker. “[Horizon School is a] dynamic school for pre-school/kindergarten ages that focuses on hands-on, self-directed play and creative expression.” Nestled in the Richmond Beach community, Horizon School is a private, non-profit school. The application process begins each winter, and they also offer summer programs.
First Lutheran School & Kindergarten
“First Lutheran School & Kindergarten at Richmond Beach provides pre-k through kindergarten. It’s a solid starting point if you’re looking for a place that is well-rounded and focused on child development along with principles of the Christian faith,” says REALTOR® Casey Diep Bui. “Our kids attend and we are very impressed with the staff, their curriculum, and their approach to teaching.”
The Evergreen School
Offering programs for those in preschool all the way through 8th grade, The Evergreen School is all about learning in a vibrant, diverse environment. Their preschool program is a half-day program (with extended childcare available until 5:30pm), and their prekindergarten program is full-day. They also offer a huge variety of afterschool classes, including sessions that are focused on robotics, coding, baking, debate, sewing & crafting, and much more.
King’s School
This dynamic community offers programs from preschool all the way through high school graduation. This incredible resource offers a dynamic range of programs, including high school programs (like Running Start, GED, and more), professional and technical programs (like nursing, dental hygiene, criminal justice, business technology, etc.), online programs, transfer degrees for those who plan to attend a college or university, continuing education, and so much more! Featuring 17 beers and 3 ciders, Ridgecrest is the place to be for a laid-back dinner and hangout with friends! They also host food trucks each evening from 5-9pm—take a look at their schedule here. “The Ridgecrest Public House is a great place to meet up with friends. The RPH has rotating taps for beer and cider and a different food truck each day offers plenty of options for food,” shares REALTOR® Samantha Arango. “Down the street is the Crest Theater, which is a discount movie theater, and a great place to take kids.”
Family owned and operated, this Shoreline staple nestled in the heart of Shoreline’s North City district serves up classic diner food with a Greek influence. “Leena’s has a great breakfast menu,” shares REALTOR® Samantha Arango. REALTOR® Bernice Whitney agrees—”It’s hard to top their breakfast!”
According to Cori, “the Cabin Tavern is a perfect little dive bar grandfathered in to laid-back Richmond Beach with sloped floors, a crooked bar and regulars sipping beers at pretty much any time of day. Great fish and chips with the best tartar sauce ever and jam sessions Tuesday night where people can bring instruments and join in playing bluegrass, blues, folk, rock, you name it. Great character and worth checking out!” REALTOR® Melissa Huddleston also adds that this spot has been around for decades, and offers “typical bar food and fair, but so much fun to sit outside with a brewsky on gorgeous summer days.”
New residents won’t want to pass up this local favorite. Hill’s has been serving delectable dishes for over ten years, becoming a go-to for lunch, dinner, and happy hour. “Hill’s offers a great menu, nice ambience & good value,” shares REALTOR® Jill Langer. “For the best one-stop shopping experience, its got be Costco, centrally located in Shoreline and an easy I-5 commute. For a mid-day pick-me-up, you can always graze the isle samples or for that sit-down experience,there is the Food Court,” shares REALTOR® Bernice Whitney.
REALTOR® Samantha Arango also has a couple of grocery shopping tips—”I love Central Market as well,” she shares. “Central Market has cooking demonstrations, a huge deli, salad, and antipasto bar, and a great selection of cheeses, wines, and beers. Trader Joe’s opened up this year and is always a fun place to shop.” REALTOR® Jill Langer seconds that—”The Central Market offers everything FRESH – produce, seafood, flowers – you name it.
